WHY CHOOSE CREMATION?

Cremation allows for a wide range of personally-meaningful options for individuals that are simply not available otherwise. Sea scattering, partial burial, interment in a cemetery, or placement in an urn for an at-home memorial are just a few of the unique and special ways you can honor a loved one with cremation.

We offer consultations at no cost to discuss the process involved in cremation, and the availability of these services.

THE CREMATION TRADITION

Cremation dates back at least 17,000 years. It has long been an alternate option to full casket burial and a personal choice for millions. Since 1973, Linwood has assisted more than 67,000 families with their cremation needs, and that tradition continues today.

Cremation niches, which include installation and inscription, are a popular option that cover the majority of funeral expenses for one low, all-inclusive price.

Cremation is a popular choice, and with the rate of cremation estimated to reach 80 percent in the next decade, it’s clear cremation is no longer just a religious or financial decision, but one of preference and convenience as well.

THE CREMATION PROCESS

Cremation reduces the body to its basic elements through a process that exposes it to open flames, intense heat, and evaporation. This process takes place in a specially-designed furnace called a cremation chamber, or retort.

Cremated remains are commonly referred to as “ashes,” however, the actual industry term is “cremains’, from “cremated remains”.

After cremation, the cremains are placed in the urn or temporary container and are returned to the family.
